The PF account number is an important part of your EPF account. It gives you access to all the information about your EPF and helps you make payments online or offline.

    What is a PF number?

The Employee’s Provident Fund Organization or EPFO is a government-owned organization that manages the Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) Scheme.

The PF account number is a unique 12-digit alphanumeric code that you may receive from your employer at the time of enrollment into the employee’s provident fund scheme for employees who were working for them from January 1st, 2016 onwards.

This number has been allotted by the Government of India and can be used to identify you as an employee in the EPFO database system where it will be linked with your bank account details which can later be used for transferring money from your PF account to other bank accounts or loans etc., depending on what type of transactions are made through this system.

What does a PF account number mean in the EPFO member portal?

In the EPFO member portal, your PF account number is a unique number that identifies your account. It is generated by the EPF and is not the same as your employee ID or UAN numbers.

How to know/find your pf account number?

    • Log into the EPFO member portal.
    • You can also check your PF number by calling the EPFO customer care number or visiting a nearby EPFO office.

What is the customer care number of EPFO?

You can call the EPF customer care number at any time of the day or night for quick answers to your questions and concerns. The number is 1800118005.

This number is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

    What is a UAN number?

A UAN number is an identification number issued by the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) to all employees who have contributed to their PF account. All employers must issue a unique identification number, which can be used to access your EPF account online or through your employer’s call center number. The purpose of this unique identification system is to ensure that you can track your earnings and benefits easily and efficiently.

Are PF and UAN the same?

    Are they the same?

No. UAN is a unique number assigned to all EPFO members, while PF Number is the account number used by an individual employee for their PF account. The two do not have any relation with each other and cannot be used interchangeably in any way.

    What does UAN stand for?

Unique Account Number which is issued by the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO)

How to get a UAN number from your employer?

As soon as you become an employee at a company, your employer will send you an application form to fill out. This form should be submitted to the EPFO office nearest to you within 3 months of joining the company. If there are any errors on the form or if it is not submitted in time, it could lead to penalties being imposed on both parties involved.

Once your UAN number has been issued by the EPFO office, all your future contributions will be deducted from this account instead of individual accounts belonging to each member of staff who works for that firm (which means no more chasing up with those pesky bank authorities).

Changes to the PF claim process

    PF claim process

The new PF account number has been introduced in the year 2019. The new PF account number will be used by all employees to claim their PF benefits online from 1st July 2020 onwards.

For existing employees, you can use your old PF Account Number for any future withdrawals or deposits of your monthly salary during the transition period. This also applies to members who have not yet updated their details with EPFO by 31st March 2020 (or its earlier date).

How to check your EPF balance online?

An EPF account is a type of savings account where the amount deposited or withdrawn by an employee is credited to his/her EPF. The Employee Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) is the sole administrator of this fund.

The best way to check your EPF balance online is to visit https://www.epfindia.gov.in/. Here you can enter your PF Account Number/EPF Customer Care Number and date of birth along with address details to generate an auto-response stating whether there’s any outstanding balance in your account or not.

If there are no issues, then click on the ‘View Statement’ button which will take you directly onto the statement page where all details like name, address, etc are displayed in full detail along with the current balance along with the previous year’s statements as well!

How to claim your PF online?

    • How to claim your PF online?

If you have not yet opened an account at any of the five banking websites, then you can apply for it by filling out a form on their website and submitting it. If you have an existing Debit or ATM card, then all you need to do is link it to the bank account that has been set up for your PF withdrawal purpose.

This process must be done before claiming any amount from your EPF account as otherwise, it may lead to denial of such request due to technical reasons like insufficient balance in any particular bank account.

    • What is the process for claiming PF online?

Once logged into either one of these websites (if they are different), follow these steps:

    1) Click on the ‘Apply Now button

    2) Enter all necessary information such as Name/DOB/Date Of Birth etc.

    3) Enter details about how much income tax savings should be credited against each member based on their age bracket factor which varies state-wise depending on where they live currently.

    4) Select whether there are any other financial benefits under the EPF scheme such as Life Insurance Policy Premiums paid annually etc.

    5) Then choose how much money would be deducted from current salary accounts before being deposited into EPF accounts

6)Finally click the ‘Next’ button at the bottom right corner so that everything gets processed successfully without delay.

    Conclusion

Now that you know how to find your PF account number, check your balance and claim it online, you can start planning your retirement. You also have to be careful while filling out the form since many bogus websites will ask you several questions and then send a fake UAN number to its customers by impersonating a real one. It is advisable not to trust these websites because they could be misusing information about the government scheme.
